Qualifications, expertise and know-how:
This is the Regulatory Council of “DOQ Priorat”, a legally recognised organism that aggrupates and coordinates all the cellars and vine-growers included in the well delimited wine producing area of Qualified Appellation of Origin Priorat (Denominació d’Origen Qualificada Priorat, DOQ Priorat). The DOQ Priorat includes near 1900 Hectares of surface for wine producing, mostly red wine, with some 5 M kg grape per year, and near 100 cellars. It is a small mountainous area located 30 km far from sea, at some 40 km west of Tarragona, in south Catalonia, Spain. The level of “Qualified Appellation of Origin” (DOC or DOQ) is the maximum distinction in the Spanish System of quality wines and it is only held by two regions: DOC Rioja and DOQ Priorat. The Regulatory Council of DOQ Priorat is officially recognized by the Catalan Institute of Wine (public organism of autonomous government of Catalonia) as the organism whose main functions are to control, to protect and to register the wines produced in this delimited area, assuring that they accomplish the established conditions for production, elaboration, aging, designation and commercialization.
