URV
URV is a Public University and RTD performer in the project.
The University Rovira i Virgili is the public University of Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain). It offers 42 degrees and 49 official Master programmes in almost all areas of knowledge taught in 9 Faculties and 3 Technical Schools. There is a total of 11.000 students enrolled, with more than 2000 new graduates every year. In the URV work near 1000 full time Academic staff and 700 administration staff and services. The total build area in 6 Campuses is 127.000 m2. In relation with R+D+I the different research groups got in 2010 a competitive financial support of 31 M€ and some 15M€ from non competitive financial support. Being a relatively small university, URV has a relevant quality of scientific production, with the 4th position among Spanish universities in the ratio of indexed publications by number of academic staff.
Scientific Team:
- Dr. Alberto Mas, project leader Full Professor (Biologist and PhD in Biochemistry from University of Barcelona) is working as a professor in the URV since its creation (1991) and mostly focused on wine biotechnology. He is been also responsible for the Oenological Biotechnology Research group and has lead several projects at National and European level. He maintains collaboration with the wine industry.
- Dr. Albert Bordons Emeritus Full Professor (Biologist and PhD in Microbiology from University of Barcelona) has been extensively working at URV in Lactic Acid Bacteria. He has led several National competitive projects and maintain collaboration with the wine industry.
- Dr. Cristina Reguant Associated Professor (Biochemistry and PhD in Oenology from URV) has been also working in the field of LAB. She has led several National competitive projects and maintains collaboration with the wine industry.
- Dr. Gemma Beltran, Assistant Professor (Biochemistry and PhD in Oenology from URV) is involved in Yeast characterization. She has led several National competitive projects and maintains collaboration with the wine industry. Dr. Braulio Esteve-Zarzoso, Senior Researcher (Biologist and PhD in Microbiology from University of Valencia) has been involved in molecular characterization of wine microorganisms. He has also experience working in the wine industries.
